AJAX Slideshow extension allows you to pull your images from any media feed supported website like Picasa, Flickr, PhotoBucket and any other. Just enterthe feed in the module configuration and you are good to go. You can even scale the images to their original sizes to to make them fit in a nice littel module position (as shown on our home page). Below is a full page demo of the module with scaling of images set to true.

Installation was easy, but I can't seem to figure out how to make it show up on the site. Am I missing something obvious?
  • admin
    avatar
It's pretty straightforward. One thing you need to be sure of is that you publish the module to an existing module position. Secondly, it should have a valid RSS feed, you can try with using the default RSS feed which comes by default in module. Feel free to get back in case you still find any issue.
  • babdoy  - how to remove author?
    avatar
when i use it, it shows the author name on the bottom. how would i remove it? i cant find any tools to remove... thanks
  • admin
    avatar
You need to edit code for removing the author. I assume you are referring to "Created by SopanTech Solutions" link.

We create and provide extensions free of cost hence we request our users to keep the author link. If you still want to remove it then we request you to donate using the button on top right of each page of the website.

You can still remove the link without any donation and we leave it to you to decide.

My feed URL looks like : http://api.flickr.com/services/feeds/photos_public.gne?id=myFlickrId but no image are displayed in the module zone in my website. Is my URL wrong ? Or do I forgot to configure something in the module configuration ?

    Thanks.
  • admin  - Flickr ID
    avatar
The URL seems to be correct. There could be the following reasons why it's not showing any images.

    1. Your images/gallery may not be public.
    2. Flickr ID you are using in the URL is incorrect. You can find your Flickr ID here - http://www.adamwlewis.com/articles/what-is-my-flickr-id

Unfortunately nothing happens. Picasa-feeds work perfectly. Leaving the set=setID out of the feed results in text: feed could not be loaded. Above complete Flickr-feed lead to nothing at all. Please help.

We acknowledge this as an issue with Ajax Slideshow module. This module is based on Google API and the module displays the feed images with help of Google API. We need to check if the module has the issue or the API itself doesn't work for Flickr. We will look into this and provide a fix at the earliest.

Try link in this format. It works, you can see the same RSS on our home page demo on left side.

As of not, it doesn't support Facebook and Shutterfly.

Is there a way to alter the picture resolution? When I choose not to scale, the picture becomes very small, but when I do the resolution becomes very bad.
  • admin  - Unfortunately No
    avatar
Unfortunately as of now, there is no options to set the resolution of image. Please note that this limitation is not of the module but of the Google API on which this module is based.
  • santosh  - Can we add text to slideshow

I want to make a slideshow with text on the left and image on the right. The images are on my server. Can you please help me do this.

As of now, this module doesn't support showing text along with images.

    Hi,

I am trying to incorporate this material on to a site to show off a FLICKR set. I have been researching what you showed above and tried to incorporate the change to public.gne. Unfortunately, that does not link me back to the set I am trying to display. Does this module simply not support sets? Is there a way to set that up? Thanks! It looks great. Hope I can get it working.

Unfortunately the module doesn't support it at present. More than 1 module can't be published on the same page.
  • Martin  - slideshow height
    avatar
    Hi!

Could you please help find out what the problem is here:
    http://plantatrade.hu/joomla/

    The route is fine.
The module has height set to 200px, and still it barely has any height.
    What am I doing wrong?
  • admin  - Don't use px in width and height
    avatar
You have specified height as 100px in the module settings but you should only specify 100, same goes for width. Then it should work as expected.
  • marv  - slideshow height SOLVED
    avatar
    Thanks a lot!
    The slideshow displays fine!
Than I guess there is no way of defining width in percentages, right?
HOw much is the preferred donation for hiding the sopantech link?
  • Frank  - Picasa not working - Loading ...
    avatar
    Hi,
great Module. This is what i am searching for. But I have problems with loading picasa pictures.
I want to see all pics in my picasa webfolder (http://picasaweb.google.com/TuS.Altenrath) If i have to select a special folder, than i can create one. But for testing, also a selected folder is not working (http://picasaweb.google.com/TuS.Altenrath/AltHerrenTurnier2010)
What is the exactly string, that i have to type in Feed URL in the module?
    Thanxx and nice regards
    Frank

Try the link below ins RSS field. You are using the album URL but you need to use album RSS which you can find at bottom of the page.

I have the same result. Loading...
    See no picasa pics.

Well, it's working well on this very page. Take a look at the slideshow. Wait for some time once it says "Loading", it takes a few seconds before it cache images and start displaying.

    really strange.
I see nothing. Tested on IE and FF and two different PCs.
  • Freddy  - Display folder content
    avatar
Great module, but one thing that bothers me:
I have a Picasa album, consisting of several folders. I would like to display the pictures that are in all those folders.
But when I insert de RSS link of the main album, it only shows the images (or "thumbs)of those folders in the main album, not the pictures inside the folders.

Is there a way to solve this?
  • admin  - Depends on RSS
    avatar
This module simple pulls the RSS images. If the RSS supports/displays images of sub-folders then the module also will show that. Module has no control over folder/sub-folder hierarchy.
  • Freddy
    avatar
    Ok, thanks for your reply.
So that s***ests that the picasa RSS doesn't support images of (sub)folders. :(
Too bad, and is there a change that there will be a feature in the future where you can specify multiple RSS feeds.... :D
  • admin  - Not really
    avatar
No such feature is planned in future however there are some feed aggregation services available which generates a single RSS feed from multiple RSS feeds. You can create one such feed and use in module.
  • Freddy
    avatar
    That is a great idea!

Should have thought of it myself, thanks!
  • Freddy
    avatar
    And as s***estion:

WOuldn't it be nice that when a image is clicked on, it opens (full size) in a lightbox, instead of going to the picasalbum?
  • admin  - Thanks
    avatar
Thanks for your s***estion. We'll consider this when we plan for next release of the module.
  • Freddy
    avatar
I still really hope that this can be implemented in the future.
Untill that time: is it possible to remove de link from the thumbnails/slideshow?

Because my clients doens't want that visitors are redirected to the picasa album... :?:
  • Stu  - Looks like the RSS feed is only sending thumbnails
    avatar
I have the slide show working really well, but I seem to be only getting the thumbnails from Flickr.
Am I doing something wrong with my Flickr account?
  • admin
    avatar
I am not sure if I understood your problem correctly.
  • Stu  - RSS feed is only bring through Flickr thumbnails
    avatar
The images that are coming from Flickr are the thumbnail images not the actual medium or original images
  • admin  - re:
    avatar
Sorry Freddy. We don't have any plans to implement this feature in future since it make more sense to link the thumbs to slideshow in case anyone want to see full size images.

    :(

I understand your point, although I personally think a lightbox is more eyecandy. (maybe a choice...? :) )
Besides that, is there a way to solve the wish for slides without links to the picasaalbum?
  • admin  - re: RSS feed is only bring through Flickr thumbnai
    avatar
That's correct, slideshow only shows thumbnails however you can specify the size. Actual size of images is generally huge (~3-4 MB) so page will take lot of time to load if you want to load the actual images.

  • Morten  - Updating image album - local cache
    avatar
Hi, thank you for making this module! The idea is great and would make it so much easier to update albums on our Joomla! site. However, when updating the album (i.e.,uploading, deleting or reordering), changes does not appear on the site - even if i clear the browser cache. Only when using a "new" browser, the correct album shows.
I guess it's a matter of cache, but I can't seem to figure out how, where or why :-) Any ideas?
  • admin  - Cache
    avatar
As you mentioned, it's mostly a cache issue. Module simply reads the XML feed and shows the images from feed.
  • Maureen  - SmugMug
    avatar
Does this module support a RSS feed from Smugmug? And if not, are there plans to support their feeds in the future?
