Is ist possible to run the Module two times on my homepage? When I copy the module, it`s only showing it one time.
  • Diane  - agree about two times
    avatar
I would like to do this also! Plus, mine is only showing two of the RSS feeds... not three. How can I change that?
  • admin  - Feeds
    avatar
Your case is different than the first one. In your case, 2 out of the 3 feeds are being displayed. This could be a problem with the feed itself. Try opening those feed URL in browser directly and see the output.
  • Diane  - two times
    avatar
I had selected vertical... when I changed it to vertical stacked, it showed 3 feeds. I am very interested in having the module appear 2 times though... can't wait for that update. :D On mine it does show the text "loading feed" with the credits underneath... it just never loads the second group of feeds.
    Thanks!

This seems to be an issue with Google API which this module use. We came across some people who are having similar issues while using Google API. We'll keep looking and update the module with the fix once the same is available from Google.

As of now, it's not possible to grab and display the images from RSS feeds. Module has been created to accommodate only text part.

I was using this successfully, even though I was not happy that I could not load more than one module to the page... :(
However, here I am and I discovered that it is not loading feeds at all. I checked all settings and it is enabled... but for some reason my feeds stopped working... any ideas?
help! Had to replace with something else temporarily until I can figure this out.
    Thanks!

This is not an issue with our module. It's an issue with your Joomla installation/configuration and this is quite a common issue. You can search Joomla forums to find more about it. If you'll try to install any other extension then also you may get this issue.
  • jamil.chishti  - Increase number of rss stories
    avatar
Hi, this is an excellent module and very easy to use. Thank you for developing it.

I would like to know if it is possible to increase the number of stories from at the moment to having unlimited stories so that you can have a scroll bar to see all the stories.

I am using the bbc rss feeds and only allowing 4 stories is not very good.

Also i understand that the feed stories are captured by joomla. Where do you store these stories?
    Thanks
  • admin  - Number of feeds
    avatar
This module is based on Google Ajax RSS API. Number of feeds are controlled by the JavaScript which this extension use. Since the module doesn't keep a local copy of JS, it's not possible to modify the number of feeds. You can copy the JavaScript and modify it to suit your needs and update the reference to JavaScript in module PHP file. However I am not sure if you add more feeds, it'll show scroll bar. I guess it'll simply extend the page height instead of adding scroll bar.

Feeds are not stored by Joomla anywhere, they are dynamically picked and shown in the module. I hope this information helps.

Is it possible to manipulate the layout/look and feel.

I am using the vertical stacked option - left position. But would like a narrower display. The deadlines are cutoff. I would like to adjust if possible. Wrap on.
  • romas  - size, word wrap control?

    nice mod though!

I just deleted the reference to the css and pasted same css in the htm file so i could play with it. got things good now - thanks anyway!
  • Greg  - Great mod, but...
    avatar
I would love to have more than 3 feeds. I sometimes like to have as many as 10. Is this possible? If not, is it something that will be soon? Out of all the readers I have tried, I like the look of this one best. But what would really put this one over the top for me is additional feed fields.
  • admin  - Thanks
    avatar
Thanks for the appreciation. We'll soon be releasing a new version where you can have more feeds and you will be able to change CSS (colors, font etc)
  • Greg  - Coming soon...

  • Fraser  - Reduce width slightly
    avatar
    Hi,

Is it possible to reduce the width of the vertical stacked version?

I have it inside an article (following guide above, thanks) but it is slightly too large and my modules stacked on the left cover part of it.

This is turn stops my articles ordering correctly, this article should be second on my page.
  • admin  - Not in this version
    avatar
In this version, no CSS property can be changed however next release will be with CSS file which will allow users to make look and feel changes by modifying CSS.

Each browser interprets CSS in a different manner though Firefox, Chrome and Opera follow standard more strictly than IE. Not sure if that's the reason for this problem.

  • admin  - re: issue with font color

Feed colors and other display properties are controlled by an external CSS hosted by Google. If you know little HTML/CSS then you can download the CSS and customize it as per your needs. You also need to update the CSS path in module files to pick your CSS instead of default CSS.

You can either create a new CSS file and incldue it in gajaxfeds.htm or include teh CSS directly inside gajaxfeeds.htm in style tag.

You can inspect the CSS using firebug (firefox) or develoepr tools (chrome) and override those elements in your CSS.

I am having the weirdest problem. Every time I publish Google Ajax RSS, if I click on the menu item under which this module appears, IE9 tries to download some file that not even exists. Even when I type the corresponding menu URL or when a make a wrapper to call the module from another website located on another subdomain. FireFox does not have this problem. Only IE. Since your demo is working and I can see it working with the same IE9 I see my website, I am thinking that probably it has to do with the server that is hosting my website. What do you think about it? Your answers will be much appreciated. Thanks a lot.

I was the other one that had problems with IE9 wanting to download, I never did get it working, in the end you told me it was an issue with IIS and s***ested I switched to Apache, but with me hosting over 200 websites it just did not make sense. I would love to get this problem figured out.

I just installed a fresh copy of Joomla yesterday. The only two add-ons that I have installed so far are Google Ajax RSS and the Modules Anywhere plug-in. I used Modules Anywhere to display Google Ajax RSS in an article. I also used Google Ajax RSS alone as a module directly displayed in a specific position. Right now, Modules Anywhere is disable and Google Ajax RSS is assigned to position1 of the default template. It should appear under the Joomla banner on the front-page but I not even can go there (www.latinface.net) without getting the download window. As I already explained, FireFox has no problem showing the website correctly. So, right now, Google Ajax RSS is the only extra module in the website. I will go somewhere else to see if I get the same problem from another computer to eliminate the possibility of my computer as the source of conflict. In the meantime, do you have any s***estions? Thanks for your help. By the way, your extension is awesome! If only I could use it. . .

Here is what Jeremy, from webhostingcanada (great guy!) just wrote to me:
“I tried it on Joomla 2.5.6 using IE9 and it works on my server. It worked in regular module position and using the Loadposition plugin to put in article. When I try using IE9 on your site I get the download as you described. Sorry not sure what to s***est might be the problem, but it might have to do with "Apache Handlers" or "Mime Types" on your server. They can affect how the browser deals with a file type (downloading it or displaying it).”
So, it sounds like the problem is my hosting service. They have LiteSpeed, not Apache.
Thank you for your help and for developing such a great module.

(Firefox, Chrome, Safari all fine). When I am not logged in as a Jomsocial user, it appears fine, but when I log in, the styling is lost - you can't distinquish between the titles and the articles.

Could you send the link to your site with login details from http://www.sopantech.com/contact-us.php so we can take a look. Mostly it might be due to some CSS elements may have common classes/IDs and JomSocial might be overriding them so module styling is getting lost.

The conflict appeared to be with K2. I had K2 disabled, because I decided not to use it, but it must still load something. I just uninstalled K2, and now my feeds are working perfectly. So this is no longer an issue for my site.
  • Bryan  - HOW TO FIX - IE trying to download page
    avatar
I str***led with this a few months ago and spent days trying to fix it, I was told it was because I was running IIS and it would work on Apache. Then earlier today I was reading here someone else had a problem with IE downloading the page and mentioned MIME so it prompted me to try to fix this for myself again - because I love this module. It ended up being an easy fix....

    In the file;

    modulesmod_gajaxfeedsmod_gajaxfeeds.php

I added the following line at the end.

    Code:
    header('Content-Type: text/html; charset=utf-8');

    Hope this helps someone else.
